Marcasite brooch w/3 different gemstone flowers (not sure if gemstones are real?).
1.5" tall x 1.5" at widest part. It appears it can be worn as either a brooch or on a necklace, based on the loop at top of pin in the back. It doesn't look like it was added later, but could have been.
I can't see any markings on the back.
Anyone have a clue how old it could be?
This looks to be a Giardinetti brooch from the 1940’s.
Giardinetti means “little garden”.
It’s made out of 800 silver and the stones should be natural, like the red stones could be garnet. Hard to tell about the others. I am not familiar with gems. Silver was not rationed in the War era, so jewelry from this period is usually set in sterling or other types of silver.
Now remember, I said, “looks like”. I cannot tell from the pictures if it’s a reproduction or not.
Let’s hope not. Your little brooch could be close to 80 years old. I would put this under “Fine jewelry” where collectors have much more knowledge than I, as I collect vintage costume. I am sure someone will help you figure it out.
Good luck and welcome to CW!
Thank you, Ms.Crystalship! I had a hunch it was one of my grandmother's, which would make sense if the era you think it's from is right.
I will tag it to fine jewelry as you suggested!
So if it belonged to your Grandmother, it’s not a repro! I am so glad! What a wonderful heirloom, treasure this “little treasure”! And so happy I could help!
