A bit of interest, I hope, to some, heres my old copy of Copperfield and Bleak House, by Chapmans... made up of parts, with printed Dickens’s Works Household Edition before the bound instalments part spear holes, and quite a few printing errors....along with some of the usual first edition errors.. (elgble, chair etc..), which I guess they never changed. I’m no expert in old books btw.
But what I like in my book are the ink fingerprints on some pages, as it gives a feel of use, and also the printing errors are great, chapters and picture not in their index place, sentences finishing early, paragraphs that’s never end that get me out of breath reading them..... it’s nice and feels perfect for Victorian London to me.
I even found a pencil written note inside mentioning Peggotty’s Cottage, Betsey and things in her house, showing me someone was using the book, and there’s a name in blue ink on the front cover “G M Thorne” maybe the original owner who had the parts bound.... I’ll never know.
A once prized possession Id say, even with all its flaws .....but to me it’s wonderful, as it all adds to it’s enjoyment of reading these great novels of Dickens’s Works, in such an original way.
Hope you all like it...and don’t mind my sharing it with you.
Regards from a not foggy London!
