Picked this up at Long Beach for a single dollar bill. For a matchbook it fairly interesting with an interesting history.
Dick's Café started in 1935 as an 8 seat diner. Eventually it grew to 240 seats with a barber shop and curio shop. The owner was cowboy of sorts and was a stuntman in a few westerns. The owner Dick Hammer passed away in 1997 and the building was demolished in 1999. That is a bit of a bummer.
Now as for particulars on the matchbook. The front and back or advertisements for the cafe as usual and with fine artwork. But also the inside is also. information on the inside. Plus there is artwork on the matches themselves. That I have not seen before. Each has a waitress carrying a plate with a burger and a drink.
It is a shame it is no longer around but there are many fine cafes and restaurants to visit. I am certain they would appreciate the business.
Nice find. The artwork on the matches is so unique. Dick must've had a pal in the printing business. St. George is a growing town. Progress I guess-sad that the diner is no longer, as cowboys are vanishing too.
