Best piece of Bakelite I have found in ages. 35” long and weighs 138 grams. I like all old vintage things but know very little about costume jewelry. What is the deal with people listing the weight of the pieces?

In my opinion listing weight helps a collector or buyer (think ebay) who knows about certain items and differences in quality so weight helps with their decision to purchase. It's just another tool - signatures on clasps help too. Example - acyrlic, lucite and some resin (not all) beads weigh less than bakelite. I love your necklace. I think based on the clasp and the metal filigree beads it is from the 1950's-60's.
