I agree..the world used to have master craftsman. What are the dimensions and what does it say on the front? Is it someone's name?

Old chests like this were a common find up in New England when I lived up there years ago. Very heavy and well put together. They were blanket chests and normally found in the master bedroom at the foot of the bed. Unlike a hope chest they weren't made of cedar which I never learned why not. Most were simply spruce or hard pine. I figured maybe cost of the material played a role in it.

It looks like I see the partial word Canada something on front. There is also is a small metal plate in lower L bottom corner what does it say ? Very unusual handles and seems would be hard to hold it up with the shape of them ? Very nice !

A very cool old chest, could it have been a toolbox maybe with a now missing tray inside? I think I'm seeing "Candra-- Jenks" on its front, with at least 3 possible nameplates. I also agree the 'handle' parts don't look practical as is, I wonder if they used to have metal (?) handgrips through their holes.

Thank everyone for helping. My phone got hacked so I lost all contacts an websites. But I couldn't figure anything out on it so I sold it. Thanks again
