Turtle - Approximately 2"
Face - Approximately 1 5/8"
These are a couple of netsuke. The turtle with the rats is a resin reproduction. And the wooden carved face is a contemporary made one. It's a very nice example with fine detail carvings and glass eyes. I've had both for about 20+ years?
The netsuke is an ornamental piece, usually of carved ivory, used to attach a medicine box, pipe, or tobacco pouch to the obi (sash) of a Japanese man's traditional dress. During the Tokugawa period (1603–1868), netsukes were an indispensable item of dress as well as being fine works of miniature art.
