It is time for Carnaval in Brazil, & many of my posts today are dedicated to that country and their joyful celebration which includes colorful floats & dancers on parade in Rio de Janeiro and Sao Paulo this weekend
This 7 1-2" round frosted glass plate has a 2 1-2" colorful center image of a couple wearing tall funny party hats which remind me of Carnaval revelers. By Swedish artist Ulrica Hydman Vallien and signed in lower rt corner. I hope my CW Vallien collector friends will get a smile from this one :)

That's a really strange and weird little piece and I love it for all it's oddness! It's very different, like folk art. You definitely sound like you have a lot of fun at this time of year! :D

Phil you are so on target here, the tall cone-like hats & clowny faces really DO look like the Punch & Judy puppets! Great comparison & could be the inspiration for this design. At any rate, they are an amusing couple perfect for the Carnaval/Mardi Gras holiday, thank you for your fabulous compliments & keen observ
As I'm writing this Lauren, the Brazil Carnaval parades are on my cable TV Brazilian channel live via satellite, and I get to enjoy watching as if I had a front row seat! It is a very, very fun occasion which occurs annually a few days before Ash Wednesday, and it's a national holiday in Brazil so people can attend (or TV watch) the parades, which are held in special avenue-type stadiums in both Sao Paulo & Rio de Janeiro. Thank you for your fantastic praise for my 'odd couple' & your kind appreciation for my excitement about this special holiday
Scott thank you for your marvelous comment about my definitely unusual Swedish plate! This lady Ulrica painted colorful, almost childlike people, animals & flowers, her art was very simple and made you happy to look at it. There are some really nice examples here on CW from several of our collector friends
Thank you kivatinitz for your terrific comment & very high praise for liking it enough to have for your own, I got so lucky finding this online - have only seen this particular image on that Swedish site indicated in my description, & they only had the image on a wine glass so it must be one of her uncommon designs. I wonder if the bird on the lady's head was meant to be part of her hat or a bird landed on her lol!
