Psittacosaurus was a small dinosaur. Only a bit over 6 feet long and weighing 44 pounds. It was from the Early Cretaceous period, about 120 million years ago. The name means parrot lizard because it has a beak. Also it had feather like growth on the tail as seen on the figure. Dinosaurs did not have specialized teeth so the beak was a eay around that. The significance of this dinosaur is that is was the ancestor of the ceratopsians aka horned dinosaurs. The most notable of which was Triceratops. Hopefully they will make a figure of next step of the ceratopsians which had the armored frill but no horns.
What I like about the Safari figures is that they make many figures of the lesser known dinosaurs. I have four more to post unless I buy a couple more in which case I will have more.
