Brass Rifle Oil Bottle

When I first saw this online amongst other items I thought it was a lighter. After I had it in my hand, it appears to be a rifle oil bottle? The WW I Enfield rifle had a similar type oiler.

It's a mystery..the screw on the side does not screw all the way down..that makes me think that it attached to something? The side hole bottoms out and it not connected to the tube. It does have the same thread cut as the top cap.

FYI I cleaned it up with some liquid Brasso. But the first picture is after I polished it with some Mother's polish.
