For the larger part this Console Table has some of the mounts shown to my table of Circa 1805-1806 made by Bernard Molitor in France. Gift of Napoleon To The King of Westphalia of Italy. Bernard Molitor was the only one to use these precise mounts which distinguish him from other makers whose work was different. No info was ever it seems given in books, especially on mounts for these tables so you have to know his work from signed examples from other makers. I have seen his work before so I knew my table was made by him before I bought it and before I ever saw it in the book on Molitor furniture. No one at the auction at Sothebys was educated on this, especially on my table or Gueridon.
Previously, The Élysée Palace in France was the residence of The brother in law of Napoleon who later became the King of Westphalia or The King of Naples. The Console table has 5 identical stars in identicle size to my table of 6 stars which also fit into the round part of the central mount in the console which is quite similar featuring 2 winged Griffiths. Nearly identicle the central mount which only differs in the ends of the rounded tails to other pieces made by Bernard Molitor who made furniture for several other Kings of France. This mount was used and adjusted for most furniture that Molitor used this griffith mount. This beautiful and magnificent Console Table has a Winged Lion on each side as opposed to my table which has 3 Egyptian Empire legs made of Bronze. Both table are featured in The book of Furniture of Bernard Molitor which also show other pieces by the same maker in Frances Palaces and Chateaus. The last photo shows the table in situ in my home !~
