This is a 1916-18 C.E. Jennings & Co. No. 48 4-inch knob handle draw shave (what, today, we call a draw knife). C.E. Jennings & Co. was in business from 1878 until 1923, and offered this draw knife individually, as well as part of one or more tool kit(s). When cleaning and waxing the knife (I used Bowling Ally Wax), I was surprised to find – quite by accident – that stamped into the crimps of the ferrules were the words “patented” and “June 29, 15” (Pat. No. 1,144,710).
Measurements:
Overall Length 10-1/4”
Blade Length 4”
Handle Length 3-3/8”
Handle Diameter 1-5/8”

Not many guys are old enough to have actually used one of these to strip the bark off a log to build a home. I happened to be a guy that has actually done it and lived in the home for 25 yrs and still have it in Sundance UT.
