This was given to me by an old friend yesterday. Her father was a doctor in Uruguay who collected lots of interesting things. He had over 200 of these at one time. This is solid and very heavy - much more so than it looks.

    very hot on the east coast too. i found one deep in the woods where i grew up when i was a kid. smaller and not as nice as this one.

    Very interesting info Riply206!! i had no idea it was such an old cultural icon for a variety of cultures/religions. since it is more of an iron ball in the hand, than a fruit, would this be considered more of a Jewish or Arabic one? or a European one? i realize that it is broken. i think it's very old or at least has that feel to it.

    I remember in my childhood that next to my house lived a Jewish family and in the front old door they had this type of iron hand as door knocker.
    Im thinking now that my country its a mix of cultures with European predominance and a big Jewish community.
    I dont know what can represent the ring in her finger.
