Civil War Field Binoculars, I have had these for maybe 25 years. They have been sitting in our curio cabinet for well as long as we have had a curio cabinet. I guess they were made in Paris as thats what it says on one of the lenses. Any helpful information on them is as always appreciated. Thanks for viewing some of Dave's way to much stuff collection. Sorry I have not been around for a few weeks. Been busy with the holidays and my daughter. I will have some REALLY COOL Coca Cola stuff to share hopefully next week. Nice 19th century binoculars. I see many of these identified as Civil War binoculars, but without provenance I would just call them 19th century binoculars. They do look good in Civil War displays.
The binoculars originally had leather covering the tubes. The small strap hooks are not something that I recall seeing on documented CW binoculars-- suspect it may indicate a later manufacture.

Also brevete is the french word for patented-- some folks think it is a manufacturer name.

Yes these were just one of those things I found in a thrift shop, I kind of thought they may not have been civil war ones Scottvez. I kinda sometimes let my imagination just run amok and end up with all these crazy stories and events take place. I call it Dave's world, you guys might want to try going there sometimes, lol. My wife just laughs at me. And Thanks for the Brevete info, I had no clue that meant patented. Now its written down for me making it much easier to remember. Hope you 2 are doing well.
