This Western Union No. 5 (CD no. 125) was made between 1893 (patented 'drip points' on base) and 1919 by Hemingray.

The pre-drip-points ones have their December 19th, 1871, patent, and the later ones from about 1919 on are renumbered to No. 15.

This also fits in my May 2nd collection of insulators (patent date on back.)
I collect them as my dog Steve, in my profile picture, died on May 2nd, 2011.

Great color, and I love how a purely functional design has an aesthetic appeal all of ist own!
What a great object to collect.

So sad about your dog. Was he old? Looks like you are adding some nice pieces to your collection. Pretty soon you will run out of places to put them like I did.

Steve was born in 2008 and died in 2011. He had some birth defects and had been abused before we got him, which might have contributed to his death.

I put many of my really common ones up outside on our fence posts. Some sit in my window. The rest go on display somehow in my room.

Hey, someone is selling one of those crazy standoff insulators on ebay. Still have never found out the history. Check out the ebay listing
