This brooch has presented a bit of a mystery to me. I believe it was made some years ago in Italy because I have see other pieces of similar jewelry marked either with ALP or ALP Italy. I also think that the turquoise center stone might be Hubbell glass but this is really just a guess.
If I am not mistaken, Mary has some bangles posted with the same mark on the back.
Thanks for looking:)
ALP stands for Alpaca.
Davyd beat me to it, Alpaca silver. :) And yes that does look like a glass cabochon. It's a very pretty brooch, the tube clasp suggests it is quite an old piece. Nice! :)
Israel?
Davyd286, thanks for your help. I was reasonably sure that the mark meant Alpaca, but because I have seen some other pieces with the same mark plus Italy, silly me thought that it might be the name of the company. I guess I am wrong:)
Mary, we can "team up" again!

Sorry Davy and katherine - alpaca silver wasn't just used in Mexican jewelry, but seems to be most of what is out there and so I posted off emotion - Gudrun, maybe delete that dorky post above?
Mary, I don't find your comment dorky at all but your wish is my command: I delete your earlier comment. It happens sometimes to me that I say something and then I realize it was not exactly what I wanted to say:)
Thanks Gudrun! Will keep looking for more about our ALP non-Mexico items.
Wow, another one!
These are amazing, love the Hubbell turquoise!
These are really worth looking into, would love to know the history and maker!
Could this be from the same maker? Looks very similar...
MsCrystalship, thanks so much for your comments.
It is possible that both brooches are from the same maker, however, the other one seems to be better made. I always love a little mystery - as long as I find the answer, eventually, LOL!
BTW, I posted a sterling bangle a few years ago. I didn't have any idea who made it, and then by chance I saw the same mark on another piece of jewellery online and the mystery was finally solved. I love when that happens!
