Loetz Orchis

Those of you who have or had a boat, know one interesting fact: a boat that is only a foot longer than, say, a 22 ft one, is an entirely new world in terms of space. I once expected a small vase with almost square measurements, 13 x 14 cm (about 5" x 5,5''), but what I received was a serious mass that still stands out among my other glass. This one, 18 cm or 7"+ tall was another such case. In the photos I wondered why the blue dots were so small, but now, at 17 cm at the shoulder, I know it is in fact a giant.
This is a relatively recently discovered decor in terms of its proper name (Warren Gallé - loetz.com), but I wanted a good one even back then when it was just another ciselé. The problem with it is that it is not too rare, but if you want a good form, good size and a fire-polished rim, it is very difficult to find one. And quite expensive. Therefore I am very happy to own this one, which fits a peculiar tendency I have in early Loetz: I love them simple and geometric, as if from some very much later time, with only tiny irregularities, like this one has at the rim from the making, which reveals the traditional production process.
