1960's op shop

Hello all.
I bought this set from an Oxfam shop when I worked in London in 1967.
I was hoping someone out there could tell me something about it.
Is it a recognised pattern?
English, Continental or whatever.
Possible age?
The pieces are machined from wood (what type I don't know).
I intend to pass it along to my grandson (as he is showing interest in playing chess) and would like to tell him a little of its history.
Any information would be appreciated.
