Comes complete with a piece of saved soap. I believe these were for all those slivers of soap. Put them all in here and eventually they fuse together. Just a minute while I do a bit of research.
Apparently the little slivers of soap (lye soap) were swished around in the water for dishes or laundry. I was wondering why it had a handle.
This one has a vintage bit of soap. It looks a bit like a tamale.

Pretty neat!! But, I guess this is what lead to the invention of dish washing liquid and laundry detergent:)

Amazing someone took the time and effort to repair it! LOL - the soap does look like a tamale! In the 2nd pic, I thought someone put a piece of wood to simulate a piece of soap!

Thank you very much Celiene. It probably cost ten cents for a new one so it is a good thing it has been repairedPlus it is still around after about a century.

To me it looks like those over camp fire grilling utensils. My grandparents had ones for pop corn. Some for meat. Their cabin up north we had a out house. And a hand pump well. And a wood burning stove. We took baths in the cold lake! Those are some grand memories. . Very neat soap contraption!

Thank you very much Lamplover78. Hopefully they had chamber pots. I wouldn't care to go out at night to use the privy.

Ha.. no chamber pots! Was a 4 person shared cabin. No privacy! Had to go to the woods to go. My grandfather would always yell, "make sure you flush"..

I have one just like it and always wondered what it was used for. Thanks!

Sounds a bit primitive Lamplover. Not a big deal in summer though.
