We had a specialty shop at the mall called the "Mole Hole" that closed around 20 years ago.My wife and daughter loved this 3 dimensional cobalt blue plate that was locked in display case.It hadn't sold in over 3 years so I went to the mall the day they were closing and inquired about it.The flowers are made from thin pink bisque spikes with glazed porcelain leaves that had been built up on the plate by hand not glued on in one piece and the plate was signed by the artist whoever that is and that's was why it was priced were it was at.I made her a offer and she took it.It's been a real conversation piece that's been closely examined by everyone who sees it.We are finally packing it up and putting it away as it's so hard to keep the dust off of.It takes cue tips and a steady hand to keep from breaking the pink spikes as you can't wash it with water.

Quite beautiful really. It celebrates the scottish thistle which everyone knows is the "flower" of Scotland. Often referred to in so many things patriotic, including many of the coats of arms of families in that country and country coats of arms. Even in things such as the kilt there are pins or accoutrements which often show the Scottish Thistle.

On the farm we avoided that flower at all costs !!~

Thank Phil for letting me know what kind of flower this is.I try to avoid even cleaning it as in the real flower the porcelain spokes are sharp.

Luckily I did not wear shorts often as they are so dangerous. Even in Canada we have some massive thistles, and so many and a large number of Scots immigrated to Canada. The weed or Canada Thistle was not originated in Canada but thought I read that it was brung here many years ago, and unfortunately is a perrenial. Your plate is very special looking !

Montreal had some thistles in their flags and some of the Canadian coat of arms has them at the bottom of the coat of arms in the arms, as in my collection. I remember seeing a similar plate but it was so many years ago and yours reminds me of majolica ware which is "three dimensional" and contains bright colours and is a complete gem like your plate is here !~

Thanks Phil for the additional information.I just found another hand painted plate with these on there. After never paying attention to these as I don't ever remember seeing them I'll probably run in to them everywhere now. It's 84 degrees here in Florida I'll bet it's freezing were your at now.
