    i found this brass box today. it has written in the tiniest letters i've ever seen embossed on the bottom 'Made in India'. What kind of enamelling is this called? thank you!

      champleve, a French term, which means raised surface or field, the motif is impressed in the metal and the cavities are filled with various enamel and then fired to set them on the metal. Looks like a very nice cigar box with the wood lining.

      This is also Benares Ware - early 20th century. Decent quality.
