This is one of the smaller carnivore skulls. Smaller than the typical cat skull I think. While one would think being a carnivore it removes one from the food chain but it does not. Coyotes are eaten by mountain lions and they would all like to have a nice juicy skunk thus the stinky stuff. Apparently animal do like being stinky.
Skunks have nice little pointy teeth but they pretty much eat snails, lizards, cat food, small rodents and dead stuff. The skull shape is similar to a weasel but DNA evidence shows the relation to be distant. Next let us compare skull size.
The skunk is in between a racoon and a goose skull and it can be seen it is rather small. Also it is why geese make good guards. Mr Racoon does not even want to take on Mr Goose. Thus it can be easily seen why the skunk has the scent thing going on.

Years ago we had China Geese and African Geese!! Your right they are get Guard Geese!!! Quiet til something comes around!!! Loud then. Funny story The male African was very aggressive!!! Would put his head down and attack when you weren't looking!!! One day a policeman was on detail in the street I had let the geese out earlier. The male put his head down and was going straight at the Cop!!! He reached for his gun!!! I stopped the Goose just in time!!!

Thank you very much Newfld. It's like an online museum here.

Thank you very much Trey. Backs up my claim.

Thank you very much stuff. Good thing you were there to stop the goose. Saved his life or perhaps the cops.

You know what else loves to eat skunks? Owls:

      *snip*

Great horned owls are one of only a few species of animals that regularly eat skunks. Since owls only have enough sense of smell to enable them to taste food, great horned owls don’t have a clue as to how awful the skunk smells, they only know they taste good.

      *snip*

      https://centerofthewest.org/2013/10/15/my-favorite-facts-about-great-horned-owls/

Apparently, the owls don't always win:

      *snip*

During the period of 1976 to 1978, five Great Horned Owls of unknown sex or age were received by two wildlife rehabilitation centers in California after having had encounters with skunks.

All of the birds smelled strongly of skunk scent, and four of them were emaciated. Their eyes had a clouded appearance, and their vision appeared to be impaired, possibly indicating that the birds had received part of the skunk’s spray in the face. In addition, discoloration of the feathers on the breast and face was apparent on some of the owls, probably caused by contact with the spray of the skunks.

All five owls were found on or near roads, and all could be easily approached. One of the owls, which was not emaciated, had puncture wounds on the breast and abdomen and died the day after it was found. A dead striped skunk (Mephitis mephitis) was found near the injured owl.

Four of the owls were treated for dehydration and emaciation, and the owl with puncture wounds was treated with topical and systemic antibiotics. Two of the owls died, and three were released after having fully recovered.

      *snip*

FYI: Sorry about the super-long Google link, but when I tried to simplify it to a more direct one , I got a warning about an unsafe connection. You don't get that with the Google link.

Thank you again keramikos. Apparently skunk hunting is dangerous and they should stick to rodents.
