Dating from the mid 1940s, this Trifari brooch is not in the greatest condition. The gold plating is worn and pitted in places. All the stones are there and overall, looks better in person. I bought this online. It measures 2 and 5/8" tall by 2" wide.
I think it is supposed to be a sprig of mistletoe. Do you agree?
Lovely vintage Trifari piece, it definitely looks like a mistletoe design to me! Oh the older sterling brooches often have discoloration especially on the backs, Alice Caviness used alot of sterling pre-WW2 and although the enamel stays nice the back is often mottled. It's still a rare beauty!
Jenni is so right. This piece is beautiful, and even though there is a little wear, sometimes it makes the piece that much more endearing. Well worn and well loved.
It does look like mistletoe.
Mistletoe grows on oak trees. It is a fungus. My Uncle would go way back in the hills and camp when I was a little girl. He would always bring me back sacks of mistletoe to give away to my friends. Thanks for bringing up a Christmas memory Maureen!
Your brooch is heavenly....
Very nice piece of Trifari, don't think I have seen this one before.
Wonderful Trifari. Someone brought this to the top — Christmas mistletoe in July ... luv it! Will we be kissing those we love by Christmas 2020? We don’t know yet; but fingers crossed, it’s a yes. Great brooch.
