This saw is only about 4 ft long. I've only seen this type made in very long sizes for bucking really huge trees. This seems odd. I picked it up with some other unusual saws tonight. any info appreciated.

    thank you!

Back home we used these short ones for bucking up logs on a saw buck. This link will show you how saw bucks are still used today but with a chain saw.

Hello, Disston made similar saws, 3' -5' long, marketed as a one man saw, oversized handle hole for a gloved hand.. The round handle was offered as an optional/auxiliary feature to be used as a two man saw. Regards, Lou

Superior is a slightly cheaper version of the Diston saws. It was made by Diston but oddly is not superior to them.

I used to go watch a great band play, they were all so good but never made it to the larger forums. Anyway, there was one girl in the band and she would play one of these saws! I'll see if I can find a link so you can see them. Really good and lots of fun!

lol! It's been a long time since I've seen them and in this song she is playing the saw but it doesn't have the wood piece at the end like I thought. They are just a crack up! Some versions are better than others, some songs are better than others but all in all, they were really fun! There's a street in Texas, Asylum Street and a Spanker is someone that sings on the street so there you have the name they chose!

Yessss! Of course after I wrote that, I had to go back and listen to them for awhile, great memories, but finally figured out who she sounded so much like... Rickie Lee Jones, one of my all time favorite singers.

Anyway, the Spankers were fun and just about each one of them could play almost all the different instruments so they'd switch up while playing. Christina got pregnant so when she left the band they pretty much went their separate ways.
