This device has been in my wife's family for years. We have no clue.
The rod at the bottom is currently screwed to the triangular block, but I don't believe that's how it was used.
Guesses have included a wheel chock, barrel chock, and washboard device. It's far more complex than other chocks I've seen. And I cannot see it as a washboard.
I just want to know what it is!
Hello, I have seen similar wooden & steel riser blocks used for leveling workpieces. They would work in pairs, opposed to each other to adjust height. Are the ridges flat & square? I will post pics of what I am referring to in Tools. ( wooden riser blocks). Regards, Lou
Yes, the ridges are flat and square. Interesting.
That screw is old, and the lower part of the wood 'pole' is notched on the bottom.
It has been identified as a clapboard gauge. (Possibly a floor gauge.)
