I purchased this doll recently.
Same exact doll as shown on page 46, "Doll Reader", January, 1994 issue. 35" tall, cloth Turkish-style doll was made for Valine's Perfume, circa 1915 , showing the influence of the Art Deco period with her theatrical-looking costume. The identical doll shown here and in this article was in the Dorothy Hesner collection.
Seller written information:
Elegant and Rare Beauty Extremely RARE, early advertising, ART DECO boudoir doll as shown on page 46, "Doll Reader", December, '93-January, '94 issue. (Copy of article will be supplied to purchaser.) This rare, 35" tall, cloth Turkish-style doll was made for Valines Perfume, circa 1915 , showing the influence of the Art Deco period with her printed (both sides) theatrical-looking costume , very colorfully printed, with very wide hips, harem-style trousers, pointed toe slippers, colorfully printed jeweled necklaces, rings, snake bracelets and dangle earrings , Turkish-styled headdress, vampy dark spit curls and side-glancing dark eyes and eye shadow . She has very pretty features and long slender arms and is in very good condition with no stains or odors, and no soil or fading. What a great find for the boudoir doll collector or decorator as these early cloth dolls were often used to decorate dressing rooms, beds, vanities and even cars. Some were made into pillows, pajama bags and even lingerie or laundry bags. The identical doll shown in this article is in the Dorothy Hesner collection and valued (in 1994) at between $600 and $650. Other antique boudoir bed dolls shown are not included and each listed separately. She is in excellent condition with no damages, no tears, no stains or fading and no repainting or repairs and no odors as she is from a smoke free home. These Art Deco dolls were often used to decorate a bed or boudoir chair and were " quite the rage " during the 20s and 30s. Most were discarded long ago.

Does anybody remember/know which doll magazine had a pattern based on this doll to make yourself? It would have appeared in the early 1990s, and used fabric markers for her face/turban/outfit, and separate sheer chiffon fabric for her harem pants. I have been searching for it!
