    AnythingOb…
    (1778 items)

This little one has been hanging on a hook on the side of my fridge forEVER -- I don't remember where I got it or when, just that I always liked it enough that I didn't want it to get 'lost' in the bottom of my regular tool boxes/bags. ;-)

I only looked closely at it again the other day, finally noticing the stamped info on its blade which I immediately recognized (now?!) as a SINGER (Manufacturing Company) part number! No doubt I didn't/wouldn't have known *that* if not for CW and the learning I've done around here...??? <cheers><applause>

I'm still firmly in the 'a little knowledge can be a dangerous thing' category when it comes to sewing machines, so I don't really know what parts of one would need their own little screwdriver, or how old it could be for that matter, but AIN'T IT CUTE??!! <lol>

Changing the presser foot or changing the needle is best done with the little screwdriver that comes with the Singer machines….there’s a screw that needs to be very snug.

Funny...I was dealing with a collector, buying some stuff and he had one of these. I almost bought it.

I think it's funny because I have one and have never known what it was for!!! Thanks for the info! I know exactly where to use it. Plus, I agree about learning so much here! I still recommend this site to people quite often!

      AnythingObscure, Good old Simanco. };-)

Why would anybody need one dedicated little screwdriver?

At a guess, because if one is traveling with one's sewing machine, having a screwdiver along for the trip would be a good idea. You didn't necessarily want to raid the household tool kit for some big-handled tool.

ISMACS lists SIMANCO 25537 as an accessory for Singer models 221/222, the so-called Featherweights (they only weigh about eleven pounds):

      https://ismacs.net/singer_sewing_machine_company/singer_attachment_lists.html

      https://singer-featherweight.com/blogs/schoolhouse/how-does-the-featherweight-compare-to-other-singer-machines

It's also listed as an accessory for the 301:

      https://www.singer301.com/accessories/default.html

And because it's handy, there is nothing to stop you from using it on other Singers (or indeed anything):

Yes, the Simanco 25537 screwdriver is small, but it probably gives the user plenty of torque with that handle design.

Incidentally, it's the larger of the two screwdrivers in this set:

Whoops, and as Watchsearcher pointed out, changing the presser foot or needle is best done using a screwdriver.

Because the screws for those parts are typically located in the harp space of a sewing machine, you don't really have a lot of maneuvering space, so a small screwdriver works better:
