My grandmother - b.1900. - always said this was the oldest thing she owned and it had been passed down to her via a relative. It has a seam running down the centre. No makers marks I can find. It has cracks and nicks all over but it’s still a beautiful object. Very tactile with all its textures. Any clues as to its origins? I’ve never spotted anything similar in style. Thanks in advance for your help.

Appears to be a northern spike...where did grandma live? Here's a similar item..

Thanks dav2no1. Mine is a pin dish, hollow in the centre. Definitely old and definitely glass, not a modern gemstone. Your fish guess might be right though. It does have a very elongated mouth. I’ve always thought it could be a stylised sturgeon, but I don’t know anything about fish.

Oh, to answer your question ... she lived in Australia.
