The use of the mermaid form makes this over the top beautiful, almost as if the sea is washing over the sand and the crack of the waves reveal a :
Mermaid fair oh mermaid fair,
Why do you languish there ?
On your own beside the rocks,
And hide your face with flowing locks.
From the Mermaid Fair poem. I would always have to ponder over if the owner of this piece would wonder if there ever was a mermaid bowl or mermaid fork in the picture. Pieces like this are rare and lend an air of grandeur to the almost impenetrable mystery of the piece. The cut out is definitely in the art nouveau style and is a beaute !~
