Here is a stunning & fascinating vase that I acquired locally.
As so often happens, it has a little story to go with it. A few months ago I was in a local shop when one of the dealers asked my opinion on a vase. He showed me a photo & asked what I thought. I gave him my opinion, & let him know I'd be interested in buying it if it was available. Anyway, it didn't turn up in the shop, but yesterday I was in there just having a quick look around & the conversation restarted. I inquired about the vase & asked if it was still available (it was slated to be listed on eBay). Luckily I was able to make a quick & very reasonable deal on it, & there it was, waiting on the counter for me today, looking even more special than how I remembered from a quick glance at a photo!
The vase is made from two layers of cased glass, clear over opaline white, with a slightly pinkish iridescent satin finish. It measures 17.5 cm tall, 8.5 cm across the cut top rim, 7 cm across the base, & 15 cm from handle to handle.
There is applied corded decoration in yellow/green (no UV response) around the lower section, as well as two ruby red raspberry prunts. Two applied handles with ribbing complete the design. To me the handles display a Victorian aesthetic which is slightly anachronistic for the Art Nouveau style of the rest of the vase.
    In excellent condition.
Most likely Bohemian origin, circa 1900. Maybe Kralik?
