My latest example of Loetz cut glass is a bright blue over clear crystal, PNIII-1119. It is 5-3/4” (14.6cm) tall, so a nice shelf size. The blue is a different shade (lighter and brighter) when compared to my other pieces of Loetz ‘Dunkelblau’, so I wonder if it could actually be the color ‘Saphir’? Warren posted an example of this shape several years ago that was also a cut piece, in Dunkelblau cut to Thea, but while the cut patterns on the two vases are similar, they are definitely different. This vase is marked with the Loetz oval on the bottom, c. 1920.
GORGEOUS !!! STUNNER !!!
great colors shape and cutting
A beautiful vase and that with a signature!
I don't think it's sapihr blue. At Ricke on pages 286 and 288 you can see the difference. With saphire blue, it almost looks as if there is still a luster. The blue has a slight purple tone. But it's always very difficult to see in photos.
Thanks so much Kevin! :)
Thank you kivatinitz - I am glad you like it!
Thank you Loetzforever; I think you are right. I definitely see the purple tone to Saphir now you mention it. I appreciate it!
Fantastic shape, I gravitate to this shape!
Thanks Jericho - I am glad you think so! I love these pieces with ball feet. :)
