My mother received this cedar chest box from my dad when we lived in Hawaii 1950. I was made by the Hung Hop Chest Co of Hong Kong. It came with a unusual lock that doesn't turn, but pushes to unlock.

I found your Hawaiian chest while looking for strange locks. Your chest looks pretty much like mine but I've never seen or been able to figure out how the lock might work. We found the chest in a junk pile with the lock on the inside and no key. Everything about yours looks like ours excepth that the key hole for ours looks like an "I" shape. Any further help you could offer on finding a key would be appreciated.

I remember the set came as three boxes, a small, medium, and large one inside of the other. They look exactly the same, but had only one key and lock for the larger box.

I have a lock that looks almost identical to the one in the picture. It appears to be the same size - same bar mechanish. The lock has only one horizontal opening on the side. The key is flat on one end and curved on the other. I have taken it to several antique stores and one locksmith. No one has been able to open it. Any suggestions????
