An Auburn telephone truck from the late 1950s. This is 7" long and made by Auburn Toys. They originally were a tire company and were called Auburn Rubber Co. Their toys were a staple of the 5 and dime stores.
This one is in the ever popular turquoise color and has an embossed driver and passenger on the windows. along with an embossed bell on the doors. It is a vehicle from the Auburn Telephone Company of course. The license plate says 503 which is the model number.
This will look great in my curio table which is getting a bit full.

I am not familiar with rubber cars so here's some questions.
Do they go hard and crack with age? Or do they survive OK if kept out of the sun?
How did they colour the rubber?

Racer4four this is my first rubber car but I have a lot of experience with plastic and rubber toys. They don't like sunlight or heat. They like low room temperatures in the 60s or 70s Fahrenheit

I remember that toy truck as a kid, the imposed drive head really creeped me out for some reason.

Thank you very much SuperDuty. I can see how, it is a bit different.

      I love Auburn Rubber toys!
Little details like that lantern/lamp next to the passenger door are part of what makes them so cool.
Oh, yeah - plus you could crash them into each other all day long and never do too much damage!

Thank you very much Retrofutura. They are also easy to store. No need to wrap. It is probably time to display them again.
