I have always had a passion for rare books. I was gifted this several years ago. It is a suede-bound edition of Tennyson's "Maud". The book is hand made, from front to back. Hand made and watermarked paper, hand bound, printed, and even illuminated. It is signed by Elbert Hubbard and the artist Maud Baker. Number 30 of 100 issued. It is inscribed as a Christmas gift in in the year 1900.
So much history, so much personal attention went into this little book. In the last 117 years, the cover has faded in spots from olive to tan. The silk lining has torn along the edges and the binding has been crushed on the top and bottom. Minor stuff if you are 117 years old!
