    Hello everyone.
Found this on Ebay Aus last week and it arrived yesterday.
I really did not expect to win it, but I did, for $55.00! Very happy with that.
I have never seen anything quite like it before......the silhouette is under curved glass, and to me looks like a lady wearing a large hat with feathers??
The reverse of the pendant has almost an eye shape with hair work and the letter "R" under glass.
The pendant measures 5.2cm x 3.9cm not including the bail and is a gold colour. There do not appear to be any hallmarks or makers marks on it so I guess it could be pinchbeck as there is a tiny bit of gold worn off the edges. A few tiny dents and scratches but really nothing to worry about.

The title that I have written is how the seller described it, but I am not sure that it is a mourning piece........could just be a sentimental piece. Also the red colour is curious as well!! The bail is really big and does not sit the right way for the pendant to be worn properly......so could it possibly have been for a man as a watch chain fob?

I did find one on Ebay that has a man's silhouette on a green background. I will put the link in comments.

Hope you enjoy seeing my curious pendant, I love it and I would really like to hear your thoughts on it. Thanks, Judy

Hi Jenni, thank you, I was so pleased to win the bidding and very surprised that there was so little interest in it:-)

Hi there, this is so lovely and unusual. I wish it were mine! I think you could do some really interesting research with the silhouette to date it pretty accurately.

I was looking online and found this info in Wikipedia about past fashions. Have a look at this fashion illustration of a lady in 1792 in particular, as I think she is wearing a very similar feather hat, hair style and dress outline to yours.

      W O W!!! You scored!!!
This is Georgian rather than Victorian, it seems painted on the back of the glass, this is called "verre églomisé".
The vivid pink background made other buyers think it was a modern bijou piece, lol!
      A little fiancé for her:

Thanks so very much Sightseer for going to the trouble of researching for me, it was very kind of you:-) The hat on your lady in the link certainly is similar as well as the pink ribbon area!
      1792!! How amazing is that!
Thanks again for your interest and the love:-)

WOW this is so exciting Pascale!! You are amazing with your knowledge for which I am always grateful:-)

I have been searching every day, probably focused too much on the reverse of the pendant and not the front silhouette!
Never entered my head that it would be Georgian or "verre eglomise" which I have never even heard of before!!
So excited to have such a beautiful and old piece in my collection , especially not knowing anything about it except that it had me curious enough to want it!
Curiosity now has me wanting to research more just out of interest!!

The man in your link looks very handsome doesn't he:-)) ahh the price! I Liked my price more lol!

Will mark out as solved now for you thanks Pascale!!! Happy, happy girl again:-)) )

Thanks Vetraio!! I have been saying that all day so far " that's amazing, and it's georgian lol:-) )

Hi, that's no problem! I love Georgian jewellery, and I've never seen anything like this before. There's such a direct link back to the original owner with this piece. This painted silhouette was quite probably sat for by "R" herself. Jewellery wasn't mass produced in those days. Amazing! What was her life like? Look how elaborate her clothes are! And now, after all these lost years she's in your precious care!

Glad to have been of some help Judy! Sightseer commented at same time, and I so agree with his/her comment #13, that's why we are in love with antique jewelry, so rich in stories :-)

Thanks very much again Sightseer and Kyra for all the help and information with this piece as well as your thoughts and love.
And yes, that is why we are in love with antique jewellery, the history and the stories and the so many unanswered questions for us to ponder over ......if only they could talk!!

Hello there, I wondered if you had seen this, another Eglomise portrait, this one a ring:

I still think yours is the loveliest I've seen on the internet (and wish it was mine - sigh!)!
