    This is my 1877 Hump back trunk that I had found at an estate sale. Left it as it was found, what a treasure.

      Great stamped tin hardware! never seen that before.. But your date... I know you have based on the patent dates. However.... the visible patent with no number belongs to the cross slat patent which was by C. A. Taylor in 1880 where the wood runs from back to front verses from end to end. With that in mind, your trunk cannot be earlier than 1880. Great trunk none the less...love the stars and the metal grape pattern!! I have never seen the vertical slats tucked to the far outside like that before. I would have certainly picked it up myself having so many rarity factors. Nice Find!!
