Do you think this is a really old lamp from Roman times? i can't be sure. I found it the other day at my favorite second-hand store in Berkeley, CA.

I might question why it looks new and no signs of wear anywhere.

You can still buy these sold for tourists . It is a reproduction of a antique clay oil lamp . A fun display piece . I have a few just like it :-)

I put Olive Oil in mine, with a cotton wick, and it works good Pete! :^D Thanks for showing your lamp! :^)

I have one almost identical that I bought in Israel.
I’ve put lamp oil and a wick in it and it worked just as it should.
Mine is not ancient—it was made for us tourists- but I still like it. :-)

I’ve previously burned lamp oil in mine but I’ll give olive oil a try next time….olive oil was probably intended for them anyway. :-)
