    I'm guessing the tool chest is from teh 1880s and it's in really good condition. Check out the beautiful brass handles on the sides. some of the tools are interesting too - and much older than the chest.

      The two rolled leather pieces are inserts to a leather mallet to hammer heavy metal without leaving dent marks. I used it at times when I was metal fabricating. a molding plane and homemade wood clamps. I have a couple of old tool chests like yours in the barn. maybe I'll pull them out soon.
