My uncle came across this ax at an auction in central Pennsylvania. Couldn't find any markings on it. Can any identity the purpose, time period, or any fun facts about it. Thanks for the help!

Looks like it may be for ren fair reenactors. It is a bit dated as fighting axes have a smaller edge.
I agree with fortapache. You can buy them at the fairs here along with other over priced items.
