Hello,
Can anyone help me identify any maker or information about this family piece. All I know is that it's been in my Mum's family for many years. I have known it all my life - it used to watch me from the picture rail at my grandparents. My Mum remembers it at her grandparents house, so it is at least 80 years old. Mum was told that it was a wedding gift for my great grandparents who were married in 1893. It's made of a matte ceramic/pottery and has inset glass eyes.

PhilDMorris - I personally have known this owl all my life (I'm 64) and my 87 year old mother knew it from it hanging in her grandparents and then parents house. Why do you find it necessary to make such a comment (and doubt my truthfulness)?
Sorry for all the questions, is there a hole below the beak or anywhere other than the hole for hanging? Thinking it might be a twine holder/dispenser. Look like a very well made piece. Guessing you are in the UK?
Art.pottery - no, no hole under the beak and the eyes are not 'clear' for a candle lamp (nor any place for a candle) - the eyes have been set into the sockets with two blobs of the same pottery as the owl. He seems (and has always been used) as purely decorative. He's some form of bisque type, quite rough to the touch (inside the head), unglazed pottery ( not smooth or shiny like porcelain) and handpainted. Yes, from the UK.
