In 1961 dad (& mom & us kids) was stationed in Augsburg, Germany (Army) when parents bought this Grandfather clock from Herbert Meyer Store in Augsburg. Now we live in the USA. Runs beautifully & on time always. Had it referbished locally 1998. Hasn't been moved since 1972.

I have an unusual grandfather clock that may have been a US Coastguard radiobeacon clock. Still researching..been in the family for a long time. Some day ill post it.

nice clock..........tic toc ....gong , gong ...lol we have about 6 old key wind ups an a couple of German birdhouses ones with the weights....same deal ...no tic toc ....lol ...never turn them on ... tic toc ......drives me nuts at night ...lol later
Glad you like. I checked your posts, lots of nice things. We have a cuckoo clock, also. The cuckoos & gongs aren't noticed - you get used to them. It's like living next to Railroad tracks: don't hear the train or the whistle at all anymore! I heard that It is best the clocks run so the oiled gears don't gum up. Same with windup watches.
LOL I live in the woods next to a river ... I can hear a car coming up the road a 1/2 mile away .. I had to stay over night at the local hospital ..they moved me 5 times because I could hear the roof fans running ...lol Any ways I wok on a old farm house one winter, had to go there 5 am in the mornings to get a fire going in the 2 wood stoves to get the place warmed up so I could work on some old walls with horse hair ..anyways they had this old wooden grandfather clock which I had to move .. when I open the back there was a piece of paper dated 1751..the name of the maker from Boston ...and a list of the people who ever worked on it and dated ....and the gears where wood ....never seen such a thing in my life ... ...And I didn't really want to touch it ...lol but all went well...keep your post coming..

Its still their as far as I know, the farm has been in a N J family for generations..they come in the summer and maybe the winter to ski. now and then ..I'll try to get a shot this summer...................

it should be on the back of the clock on the or near the gears...on top rear door ...? I guess you can look it up..
Or on theface of the clock or on the inside of one of the front doors..? I cant see the face clearly..
Could be on the back. There's no other info anywhere. Clock is bolted to the wall....I'll have to check sometime.

This guy has a similar clock. Circa 1912. Says it's a Mauthe. Has paperwork & such.

In this post, you can see my grandfather clock in the background. The radiobeacon plaque contract date says 1944. You can see the art deco waterfall look. I'm waiting for the naval museum to find more information. And they referred me to a university that has a Wallace & Tiernan collection, which the plaque is associated with. The company contracted a bunch of clocks.
Not sure yet if this clock and plaque go together yet, but it's always been inside the clock.
And one last wierd coincidence...one of my young grandkids is named Tiernan! I just started looking closer at this clock closely last year and noticed that. He thought it was cool!

I just happened on this randomly and it is the same story for my family. We were in Augsburg '60-'63. My mother bought a clock there that looks just like this and 60 years later your story pops up. Love having the details which makes it even more of a treasure.

We were in Augsburg living in Fryar Circle (named after Pvt. Elmer Fryar (https://www.cmohs.org/recipients/elmer-e-fryar) '60-63. Dad was a Major.
Where did you live on base?
My brother has the clock and is still in perfect working order. Has survived many moves. We also lived in Fryars circle. Goal was always to trick or treat around the entire circle.
jmallon731 , good to know about the clock. See if your brother can send you some pics to post. It would be great to see what your clock looks like. The few I've seen on Collectors Weekly have different leaf carvings on the front door. Fryar Circle: our address was 742A across the street from the 3 Generals homes. We would play on the large property owned by a German farmer, which was behind the Generals homes. It is still there! (Whew, not all land turned into concrete). The farmer would bring his horse & give us kids turns to ride as he walked the horse. Fun days!
