Yes DDT the good stuff when you really want insects dead. This can is a bit older than it looks. I found a picture of it in a newspaper from 1952 so I think I can be pretty safe in saying this is from the 1950s. Note ignore the sprayer seen in the first photo , it is just there for decoration, the post is just for the can. The can does have some attractive graphics of dead bugs.
Now of course I bought this can for the DDT, it is empty by the way. DDT is considered a bit naughty as it was said to be affecting wildlife such as birds. But then some blame malaria outbreaks on the ban of DDT. That is just the way things go there are pluses and minuses. Perhaps it worked a little too well.
Now I need to get the Bif Sprayer to go with it.
I had some ant issue in the flower bed on the side of my garage. I believe they were thatching ants, regardless they were in a place that wasn't good. I looked in the tool shed and found some very old bug spray in a glass bottle. Figuring it may be diluted from decades of sitting, I poured most of the bottle around the area. It stunk bad..like sweet smell and motor oil. But next day, there wasn't a single ant to be found. Stunk for a few days after..probably had ddt in it..
My granddaddy used to use a sprayer similar to that to spray his big vegetable garden ….that was in 1950s….he might have been using ddt :^(
Thank you very much Dave. I'll test it out next time a wasp gets in here and just leave the cap off. Even though it is dried out.
