I’ve had this vase about 20 years, given to me by a wonderful friend. It’s approximately 5 13/16th” tall by approximately 4 1/2” wide. The marks (under glaze) include “137”. I haven’t learned how to translate. Not sure how old it is. Think it’s really beautiful, even with the small chip/crack repair done who knows when.

Why do say it's Asian? It looks a signature with English numbers.. I don't think old Asian vases used numbers. They normally have a stamp.

Beautiful vase, such lovely colors
I agree with Dave but I’ll go a bit further …. the number 7 on the vase is more a French, German or Italian 7. I read FH and 137. I’m reminded of Ditmar Urbach’s work in the 1930’s but that signature is different.

Veteaio50, thanks for the nice comment, and I appreciate the suggestions for the marks. I’ve known Englishmen who cross their 7’s but knowing some other countries who also tend to cross their 7’s is helpful to my research. Obviously an artist FROM one of those countries is the maker. Also, I’ll take a fresh look at the lettering tomorrow. I saw it as TH, but not great eyesight, so…. Thank you again.

It is a piece by the german potter Fritz Hudler, late 1920s to 1930s I guess.

I was starting to get a bit frustrated with my inability to find this artist and I’m over the moon that you found him!!! Your research skills are incredible and I appreciate your willingness to help me and others. Thank you again!! It’ll sort of be a reverse research now that I know the artist. Hopefully this way I can research the artist and figure out why I couldn’t find him so it may help me find others in the future. :-). I know there is a sea of websites to check out.
Some of you seem to be formally educated in the arts, and/or are appraisers, or possibly some may just be totally experienced in their own personal, particular kind of antique or collectible therefore are extremely knowledgeable in certain areas so I just want to say how thankful I am for all of you and to hear what you have to say about not only my object but everyone else’s objects. Since I’ve collected so many things over my life and now I’m retired and have the time, I’m excited to share pictures and information about other items I have. I’ve had a lot of fun perusing Show & Tell to see what other lovely and interesting items members post. It’s a journey and a great one. Thanks again all!!
