Here is another recent Loetz that I wanted to share, a Loetz Crete Pampas PN 346/352, made for Max Emanuel & Co, London, in 1898-99. The handles are finished with rosettes where they meet the lower body. I was shocked at how heavy this vase is for its size when it arrived – over 2lbs (.9kg) at only 8” (20.3cm) tall! It is one of my heaviest Loetz in ratio to its size. I have always wanted a nice example of Pampas, and this is the perfect piece for me, with room to show off the décor, along with the handles, spiraling, and rosettes. Loetz’s décor names fascinate me. Pampas means prairie, as in grasses, and this décor brings to my mind images of something being hidden amongst wild grasses – I think they chose a really apt name for this décor.
I'm working on a post about pampas right now, but I can't present such a great piece. It's really stunning. Congratulations!
I think the handles are a touch of genius!
Wow Michelle! This is an awesome shape! It shows off the decor wonderfully.
