This is straight out of my personal collection of Victorian Mourning Jewelery 1880's or so. The Eagle or Bird is the representation of a fallen soldier or someone in high reguard or Martriarch of the family. I love how this ring is so well made and accurately show the bird with a Rose Cut Diamond in the centre where the heart is. This was tucked into my safe for a while...lol. I was afraid to wear it in case I damage the Amethyst or any part of the top. I took one similar to a Jeweler and he for the life of him could not duplicate the gold layering on the stone. So since then...I rarely wear any of the ones with the gold layering on the Jewelry. I was blessed that the ring was a size 7.5 ....

Beautiful piece !!
Thank you Hedgewalker!!!! Until I saw this ring..did not know they had Birds for Mourning pieces...until I did research.
This is really gorgeous! How big is the stone? Mine is big too (6.75) and comfortable to wear. I love the bird. Thanks for posting and your expertise. I may visit you at your store someday since we're neighbors.
valentino97, the stone measures 14mm x 10mm and is almost perfect condition. Did you take a look at my sites on Ruby Lane and Ebay? The items you see on there are not in the store...but in internet inventory. They are allowing me to sell almost all the Antiques online with me. I do all the descriptions and pictures and pricing. I test, weigh and carat weight them all. I love what I do :))) So if you want to see anything let me know :))
