Found this very old ring in a grab bag. I know it's gold but I haven't a clue the purity of gold it is, or what the hallmark depicts. It isn't a pretty ring. Someone left an abundance of molted metal on it. It's whats holding this rather large emerald. There's also a missing white stone which is quite small. Trying to photograph the mark was difficult. It's really small and I cannot recognize it.

Interesting marking, I know a lot of the Eastern European countries marked their jewellery on the outside, unfortunately the mark is extremely rubbed so it's very difficult to make out the markings.

Take it to a good jeweler and have it tested for gold content. That metal which is melted all over it might just be tin, in which case the jeweler could clean up the ring. It might just be worth it to have it repaired since it is an unusual ring. The cut of the green stone is a very old type of cut, too.

You can buy a precious metals testing kit on Amazon for about $12. and test it yourself. It isn't difficult at all. The kit will do silver, gold and platinum.

Tested 9 kt but the marking will remain a mystery.

Austria-Hungary Empire import mark used 1901-1921 for 14 carat gold.
This will help you to decipher when knowing what you look at:
From left to right within the mark:
      1. Letter ``P`` for Budapest assay office (Pest)
      2. Capital letter ``A`` over ``V`` for imported goods
      3. A bird, wings spread
It must have been unprofessionally repaired with soft solder (tin/lead). Therefore green salts deposited within years. The problem is what looks like a pearl on the left. It cannot sustain high temperature if a serious repair is done.
