Found these German Shepherd bookends at Salvation Army. Both were smothered in packing tape to keep them together and surprisingly heavy despite their size at 2 lbs. each. Measuring only 5.5" tall and 4.25 " wide across the back. They do show up online with some hollowed out in back or solid like these. Only "S 216" is stamped into the back at the base with no foundry or company marks. They've been heavily painted which obscures the number a bit. The paint is full of air bubbles too. I'd say weight wise they're cast iron which might have had a bronze finish originally. I'm thinking about taking them to my Rolls mechanic. He has an awesome "soda blasting cabinet" for cleaning but not damaging delicate parts and see whats under all that paint. -Mike-

It would be great to see them in original metal.
Some unoriginal patina on the metal would go down well too, I think the castings would really show their class.

Hi Karen, thanks for the "love" and comment. Yes I agree the soda blasting will only remove the paint and hopefully reveal the original surface.
