I just got this in the mail today and really like it for how strange it looks. These pieces are rare to find but this one with a unique metal cage shape and a unique base has to be a.... I don't know what. To start with the dimensions are 11"X7" and it is heavy. The glass piece is 4-layers thick and blows out in a very organic shape that seems to be twisting. The metal is very thick and seems to be a combination iron and other metals, I tried to bend a point on the base that sticks out (would catch on a sweater) and it is impossibly hard. The base has an arched Czechoslovakia mark. This piece was not mass produced and is finished with a tar-paint to preserve the metal (like rail road ties are soaked in) I do not think it is a restoration and might be from a stores overstock that never hit the shelves. Any info is most welcome...

p.s. Should I clean it up? or leave it alone?

Please download and save for your files it might be a while before we see another... jm

that's very cool. I'd leave it alone. you can never undo cleaning it up. I'd wait and see if another comes along and see what that one looks like. (another always comes along)

The French cages can be pretty crazy and maybe this was an attempt to compete
