Hi Everyone,
A wonderful Swiss carving depicting the famous dying Lion Monument in Lucern. Which commemorates the Swiss Guards massacred of 1792 during the French Revolution.
Designed by Danish classical sculptor Bertel Thorvaldsen in 1819 and carved by German Lucas Ahorn in 1820/21 into the side of a sandstone quarry.
The original is an impressive 10 meters long by 6 meters high.
This, its baby cousin, is only 10cm long by 4cm high.
Thank you
very interesting post compliments
Thank you kivatinitz, they aren't uncommon, I see them fairly regularly online. It's lovely though and I'm very pleased to finally have one :)
