I love black and gold glass pieces - here is one by Carl Goldberg, Haida, ca. 1910. About 4.5" tall - it has a simple geometric form, but is intricately decorated in gold enamel in an elaborate scrollwork theme. Perhaps most interestingly, it is signed in engraved script on each of the four edges: Carl Goldberg Haida Bohemia.

What a wonderful piece! Do you think that the signature is real? It looks a bit amateurish next to the decoration?
But I don't know - just speaking from the gut again.
For what it's worth, I think the signature is legitimate. One thing that makes it appear a bit sloppy is that whoever signed the piece went over it twice. However, if you look at the signature in detail, a couple of things are clear: 1) It was done by a German or Austrian hand (the style of the script), and 2) the Carl Goldberg portion of the signature matches very closely the script signature documented in the upper right hand of the photo I just added, which is taken from the book "glas 1880-1940 Novy Bor und Umgebung (Haida and the surrounding area)", published by Gemeindehaus. Besides, who would fake a Carl Goldberg signature? Never say never, but I think it's fine.
The "o" is not open and the "r" is poorly formed but I am neither a glass nor a handwriting expert! In experience on here, even if a fake signature, it is a quality piece.
The copperplate "r" is in reverse and very hard for a modern hand.
What a striking Vase!! It reminds me of Spanish Damascene work... beautiful!
One thing to keep in mind is that the area in between the feet (where each signature is) is very small - a half-inch space per side at most, so I imagine it was a fairly tight squeeze, and given the location of the feet, the signer may not have even been able to see what they were doing. The good news is that I am good with the piece regardless. :)
I believe the decor was made by Carl Goldberg glass refinery. But who made the black glass? Riedel or Jílek Brothers or Harrach .... ??
