Hello again CW friends!
I got this recently in a lot with a top hat from the 1800's. It's a waistcoat, or vest if you will. Clothing from this period is not my area of expertise, so I do not know if this is from the Victorian or Edwardian period.
It's well made and, as you can see, nicely trimmed. The buttons are really amazing and appear to be handmade. It's feels like a type of velvet material and I'm not sure if it's made of wool or cotton.
If one of our CW friends can help me on this one, I'd be very grateful!

Thanks! I haven't even tried it. It's about a size 38 and I'm a 40. So, I know it would be a bit tight. Most men, from that era were much smaller than we are today.

What a great vest Scott. I know a person that has rented vintage clothing to Hollywood for over 30 years. It's a bit personal ish family wise but if you want to e-mail me I will try to lead you to her. Her husband passed many years ago and I remember meeting him but I think she is still involved and very knowledgeable. Can't promise, but I can try. :)
It is a beautiful vest!!! Would look lovely with a pocket watch chain etc on it.......

Thanks and you are absolutely right about a pocket watch looking great in the pocket. I can just picture the person who wore this to grand galas, all dressed up with a fine top hat, spats and all!
